Who can become a member?

Membership in the Caribbean Broadcasting Union is open to a wide range of organizations including radio and television broadcasters, newspapers, magazines, production houses, digital and on-line-only media, regulators and media educational institutions. Membership can be either at the full or associate level, subject to approval by the CBU Board and payment of an annual membership subscription.

Why join the CBU?

Global Advocacy

The CBU is an official partner of UNESCO and collaborates with regional bodies such as the ITU Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), the Caribbean Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) the Caribbean Meteorological Organisation (CMO) and CARICOM as well as with international agencies such as UNDRR, and UNICEF.

It is also a member of major industry groups such as the World Broadcasting Unions (WBU) and the Digital Radio Consortium (DRM) and is a partner of Eutelsat, CCTV+ as well as the Advanced Television Standards Committee (ATSC) and the Public Media Alliance (PMA).

Recognition & Rewards

The best of Caribbean media content is recognised in the CBU Media Awards.  In addition to the traditional television and radio entries, CBU welcomes entries from print and digital media.

Along with the trophy presented to winners, CBU members also receive a USD 500 cash prize per category, along with internships and sponsored bursaries of up to USD 1,000.

 

Premium Content Access

CBU places emphasis on members sharing content, at no cost, around newsworthy national and regional events as well as high-value entertainment and sports events.  In 2025, CBU members benefit from free access to live coverage of General Elections as well live and recorded events including Reggae Month and CARIFESTA XV.

CBU members also have free access to the extensive library of news, current affairs, entertainment and sports content in the CBU MediaShare portal.  Members can even use the portal to virtually promote programming they want to sell in the Caribbean and beyond.

Capacity Building

CBU members are beneficiaries of training virtually and in-person in content production, operations and media management including the Masters in Media Management offered online by the University of the West Indies
