The Caribbean Broadcasting Union, CBU joins the rest of the world in celebrating today September 28, 2019 as International Day for Universal Access to Information. The recognition was first proclaimed by the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation three years ago.
This year’s theme “Leaving No One Behind” is apt, as it represents what CBU members have been committed to in our duties in our 50 years of service to the region.
As broadcasters and publishers on various platforms in the Caribbean who are committed to accurate, credible and dependable news and information being provided to our audiences, we recommit ourselves and our organisations to fulfilling this crucial role.
At a time when citizens are increasingly confused about what information to rely on, the history of our organisations in this region gives them a clear indication of those of us who operate consistently in the public interest and with public service as our core principle.
As the World Editors’ Forum also celebrate today as World News Day, under the theme “Real News Matters”, all CBU members are encouraged to keep up the excellent and important role played in our respective communities.
