Since 2021, the financial services entity has sponsored awards in the categories of Financial Literacy and Health Education journalism. The health education journalism award recognises current affairs content that focuses on and promotes national and regional understanding of health, while the financial literacy award recognises news or current affairs content that focuses on and promotes an understanding of finance.

Last year’s Sagicor-sponsored awards were won by a plethora of media houses from across the region including the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation in Barbados, the RJRGLEANER Communications Group in Jamaica, the Trinidad Express, as well as Great Belize Productions, Belize.

Ingrid Card, Vice President, Communications and Brand Experience, Sagicor Financial Company Ltd. said, “We are proud to continue our support of the Caribbean Media Awards for a fifth straight year. The work of the media is very important and as such deserves support and recognition. Financial literacy and health education are important, and the media has an integral role to play in ensuring that the region’s populace is informed. We look forward to the exceptional work that is presented each year and wish all entries the best.”

Anthony Greene, CBU President notes the importance of the ongoing partnership with Sagicor Financial. “Ensuring stakeholders such as Sagicor engage with media organisations and professionals is a great benefit both to CBU members and to the wider society. This support leverages multiple inputs to create a much larger benefit as we all seek together to tackle the development issues of the region.”

For more than three decades, the CBU has annually presented its CBU Media Awards to celebrate the best of content created by print, digital, television and radio media houses in the Dutch, English, French and Spanish Caribbean.

The 36th CBU Media Awards Gala will be hosted in Barbados on August 20, 2025.
