The Project “Media Saving Lives” is an initiative of UNDRR and WBU to promote Disaster Risk Response (DRR) actions through media in countries around the world that are most exposed to natural hazards, which are expected to become more frequent and intensive because of climate change.
In this project UNDRR has partnered with other UN agencies most relevant to transfer of knowledge to broadcasters: WMO (World Meteorological Organization), as the main sources of reliable information on weather; ITU (International Telecommunication Union), which oversees securing emergency communications and UNESCO – IOC (International Oceanographic Commission), which is in charge of Tsunami risk monitoring and emergency warnings.
The project aims to strengthen the relationship between regional DRR agencies and the media; improve the accuracy of information, enhance the quality of DRR information produced by the local media and improve the knowledge of journalists around issues relating to DRR.
Following training workshops held in the Caribbean between 2020 and 2022, including the regional co-production workshop at the end of March 2022, the CBU is launching a Call for Participation for members to produce information products for radio, television, and the internet. Once finalised the productions will be added to the CBU MediaShare platform and may be accessed and used by all members via the platform
If you’re a CBU member organisation and are interested in participating in the co-production initiative, complete the form shown below.
