Sep 5, 2017 | News Releases

Dear CBU member,

As Hurricane Irma approaches your territory, the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) notes in situations like these credible, reliable information is what our citizens need to mitigate the likely effects to people and property.

In addition, as indigenous media entities committed to working in the public interest, by the provision of timely accurate and relevant information, we know you remain accessible to government and emergency response agencies to be the channels to the populations we serve, via traditional, online and social media platforms.

The Union encourages listeners and viewers to stock up on power sources that allow them to remain in touch with CBU members who, as traditional broadcasters, committed to providing such dependable sources of information over the years, can provide the kinds of information necessary for persons affected to respond to changing circumstances as necessary.

As you prepare for the approach of this intense storm, I encourage you to safeguard your staff, property and other assets even as your news teams brave the elements to ensure our nations remain informed.

We ask you to be safe and secure in your operations at this crucial time, even as we extend the Union’s best wishes that you weather the storm within minimum dislocation from Hurricane Irma.

Gary Allen

CBU President
