Download Registration Form Launch of Manual Responsible Coverage of Children

The Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) supported by UNICEF Eastern Caribbean Area Office, and in partnership with the Association of Caribbean Media Workers (ACM) invites executives of CBU member bodies to attend the launch of the Caribbean Media Manual on Responsible Coverage of Children’s Issues.

Launch Event in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago

The launch will take place at the Trinidad Hilton in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on June 29 and 30, immediately after the launch of the 2016 UNICEF State of the World’s Children’s Report on the morning of June 29, at the same venue. Participants in the CBU event are invited to attend the SOWCR event.

The programme for the media manual launch, from the afternoon of June 29 to midday on June 30, will include key speakers from UNICEF, Caribbean experts on children’s issues and the media, as well as the President of the CBU and the President of ACM.

In-country training to be offered after the launch

In November 2015, UNICEF, CBU, and the ACM conducted a two and a half day workshop for regional media professionals, supported by USAID’s Juvenile Justice Programme with the OECS Commission, and UNDP Suriname. At that workshop, participants examined international treaties, regional media laws and global good practices for covering children’s issues in broadcast, print, and on-line media.

The manual, which will be available in print and electronically, will be one of the key tools used when UNICEF rolls out in-country training for media professionals, particularly in the Eastern Caribbean.

While the event is open to all CBU members, UNICEF Eastern Caribbean Area Office is providing a limited number of bursaries to participants from: Anguilla; Antigua and Barbuda; Barbados; the British Virgin Islands; Dominica; Montserrat; Grenada; St. Kitts & Nevis; St. Lucia; St. Vincent & the Grenadines; and the Turks & Caicos Islands.

The bursaries, covering air fare, meals and accommodation, will be offered to participants whose organizations are CBU members in good standing and are at a sufficiently senior level of their organizations to influence institutional practices and policies relating to coverage of children’s issues:

  • Chief Executive Officers or senior managers

  • Heads of programme departments

  • Heads or senior members of news teams
